When Ramesh Kumari was born he looked just as healthy and happy as any other baby.
But after 15 days, he started to grow black scales on his skin.
His mother was alarmed and took him to the doctor.
The doctors thought that Ramesh had a fungal infection and told his mother, Nar, that they couldn't do anything.
His condition gradually worsened.
By age six he could barely walk or speak. His body seemed to be turning to stone.
Nar and her husband, Nanda, finally found out that their son's condition was called Icthyosis.
Unfortunately, they didn't have anywhere near enough money to treat the boy.
Nar felt helpless and gave the boy as much love as possible, while feeling tremendously guilty for not being able to cure him.
Then something momentous happened. British singer Joss Stone was playing a concert in Kathmandu.
Stone wanted to do some charitable work while she was in the impoverished region.
A Nepalese singer saw a video about the boy and shared it with Stone. She immediately agreed to help.
Ramesh has started treatments that peel his hardened skin off.
Because he hasn't been able to walk for so long, his muscles have atrophied. He's getting better, but he'll need a great deal of physical therapy.
Hopefully, he'll slowly regain the strength in his muscles.
